School to College: Transition

by Rachita Gupta
Campus Reporter.

After passing out from school we'll be having so many transitions-first of many transitions is from school to college, from college to university, university to an office, from one city to another, perhaps even from one country to another. There are number of changes that we have face during our course of our endless lives, but the main transition is comes from school to college where students face a more independent world from a secured one.

College is radically different from school. It is a stage where a child has his first taste of independence. The closed atmosphere of school gives way to freedom of college canteen(and in our college as said by everyone people end up doing lp hons.),lectures can be bunked, professors are greeted with their initials. There are different activities to participate in,friends to make and a whole set of opportunities to discover.

But college is not a bed of roses.College has relatively less protective environment then school.Students are expected to manage their co-curricular with academics and also subject matter is not offered on platter as in case of school where spoon feeding(sometimes) used to be done. Most importantly even though you were kings n queens of your school in college you have make a place for yourselves and everyone will be treated equally no matter what school you belong.

Even, child has to go through some changes like,if a child is bubbly and confident type you may find yourself reeling under the enthusiasm! However, shy and quiet children may find the transition quite traumatic. Even for children looking forward to it, the first few days do bring some amount of shock.

A child's primary concern is in making new friends. You may find yourself reeling under the enthusiasm! However, shy and quiet children may find the transition quite traumatic. Even for children looking forward to it, the first few days do bring some amount of shock. The secondary concern is with ragging. Thanks to new rules and regulations and with more number of PCR vans ragging is reduced upto a great extent but ragging can take on serious proportions at times.

An effective support system of parents is needed when the child goes through this transition. The child may be loathe to leave the safe cocoon of school and step out into the wide world.Parents can also enroll their children in a personality development course(such courses are also offered by DU-Institute of Life Long Learning) as it will help them in boasting their confidence. The college environment requires one to be more enterprising and creative.
Transition from school to college is not very difficult, just be confident about yourself and then college will a fun place to learn and to make your career awesome.
